…asking important questions—regularly—that can offer insight into whether you have an employee who is a flight risk. If you think about an employee and answer “yes” to one or more of the following questions, take action to turn things around and/or create a solid backup plan:
1. Has your employee had a recent professional disappointment like being passed over for a raise or promotion?
2. Has there been a noticeable decrease in new ideas, contributions, or enthusiasm for solving problems?
3. Is there more negativity than usual from a normally positive employee or has a typically negative employee suddenly started acting much happier?
4. Have you gotten strange or reluctant reactions to long-term deadlines?
5. Have you seen an increase in unplanned absences?
If you ask yourself these questions about every employee at 6-month intervals, you may get ahead of some turnover that is looming in your company.
